Peter Fischaber was our guest for this short segment. Peter will be our official Scripture reader from this point forward, and we welcome him (and his beard) to the Count Joy team! Also conversation about New Zealand and story telling.
Bonus 2 – Three Beards 14 min.
Full Description: In this episode we welcome Peter Fischaber as our official Scripture reader. Peter is also bearded, like Pastor and Thomas, and beard stories were traded. After that, Peter regaled us with stories from his semi-recent trip to New Zealand, and he and Pastor talked “Deadliest Warrior” Maori vs. Shaolin monks (actually, Pastor talked about that, Peter talked about how the Maori built canon-proof bunkers against the British and Thomas concludes that therefore the Shaolin victory was rigged). We also discussed the benefits of storytelling when it comes to conveying practical information.
We picked up at James 4:11 and went through to the end. Thomas answered the objection that “if Jesus hasn’t come back yet, he probably won’t,” and Pastor took a question about statistics on pastors leaving the ministry and why.
Episode 4 – Finishing James
This was (to our minds) a good, energetic episode, with lots of interaction. Listen in to find out what book we will be moving to next!
Changed the flow from four segments to two bigger ones for this episode. Continued through James, ending up at ch.4 v.11. Thomas expanded on his answer from last week and took a question; pastor talked about the “Christian fish”.
Episode 3 – James chapter 3 (and beginning 4)

Continued our study of James in chapter 2, Thomas answered a question about how he’d respond to one who says “Christianity is illogical,” and Pastor answered an e-mail about facing guilt from feeling one hasn’t done enough good works.
Episode 2 – James chapter 2
Had a little impromptu discussion on masculine friendships in 21st century USA, followed by Pastor talking about how Christ’s 3-fold office (prophet, priest, king) is found in the Lord of the Rings.
Episode 1.5 – The Mic Check
Well, we seem to be squashing figurative bugs left and right here. Seems that we’ve managed to get a better end-product this time, and we hope it’s enjoyable. Only one segment as we were successful at our goal of working in bump music and fixing our previous, ah, mic snags, but a fun one nevertheless.
So, we have the equipment, we taped the show… and well… we don’t quite know how to get our bump music in yet… so, um… maybe someday we will dandify this up [Edit: we now have, though it will never be as good as later episodes because, hey, we didn’t know what we were doing in the beginning!], but, well, here it is. Mostly.
Episode 1 (and hopefully better than the Phantom Menace, but maybe not) — Enjoy! Send feedback!
Tom’s Episode Description:
Segment I – Got started with our examination of the book or James, beginning with some discussion on the concept of “Antilegomena,” as well as how it differs from the idea of deuterocanonical/apocryphal sources in Roman Catholic tradition.
Segment II – Continued moving through the text of James chapter one.
Segment III – Took a break from the text to answer questions. Tom first answered a question about “what the most common reason given for someone to deny the faith” and addressed some follow up on how to go about answering objections. Then Pastor took a question regarding what he would say to the individual who avoids Church out of fear they don’t fit in. Hopefully future episodes can incorporate questions from our listeners, which can be submitted to email@example.com.
Segment IV – Wrapping up the chapter and closing thoughts on James so far.
